In Alabama criminal law news today, an Alabama criminal court judge resigned today in an attempt to escape ethics charges.  Judge Herman Thomas resigned while facing accusations he abused Alabama cannons of judicial conduct.  Thomas is accused of spanking Alabama criminal defendants, helping relatives manipulate Alabama jail sentences, and inappropriately taking cases from other judges.

In recent criminal law news, O.J. Simpson did not enter a plea today.  His bail was set at $125,000 for an armed robbery at a Las Vegas casino.  O.J. was asked if he understood the charges against him and he is expected to be released soon.  O.J. is facing life in prison and is charged with ten felony counts:

• Two counts of first degree kidnapping
• Two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon
• Burglary while in possession of a firearm
• Coercion while in possession of a deadly weapon
• Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon
• Conspiracy to commit kidnapping
• Conspiracy to commit robbery
